Scholarship recipients

The Destin Seminole Club recently presented scholarship checks for $1,500 each to students from three local high schools. Students presented checks June 7 at Harry T’s to Christopher Harke, Niceville High School; David Jay, Choctaw High School; and John Parker, Fort Walton Beach High School.

Troy University Chancellor's List

Brianna Marler and Stephanie Pridgen, both of Destin, have been named to the Chancellor's List for the spring semester and Term 4 of the 2016/2017 academic year.

Full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who earn a grade point average of 4.0 qualify for the Chancellor's List.

A total of 11,101 students enrolled during the 2017 spring semester at the University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

Elder commits to attend Oglethorpe University

Katlyn Elder of Destin is among the more than 370 accepted students who have indicated their commitment to attend Oglethorpe University by submitting an enrollment deposit. Oglethorpe is excited to welcome Elder this fall as one of their newest "Stormy Petrels.” The Class of 2021 will start classes on Aug. 21.

Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is Atlanta's leading liberal arts and sciences university and home to 1,184 eclectic and engaged students from 32 states and 33 countries.

Valdosta State University announces spring Dean's List

Caitlyn Koutsky and Emily Koutsky, both of Destin, were recently named to the Spring 2017 Dean's List at Valdosta State University.

Students who achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher are recognized by being placed on the Dean's List. Developmental studies, transients, and graduate students are not eligible for Dean's List status.

UA awards degrees in spring 2017 ceremonies

The University of Alabama awarded approximately 5,000 degrees during spring commencement May 5-7.

Receiving degrees from Destin were Lauren Collins, bachelor of science in human environmental sciences; Christopher Kiley, bachelor of science in commerce & business administration; and Anna Laneve, bachelor of science in human environmental sciences.
