Louisiana man dies after being pulled unconscious from Gulf of Mexico near Destin
DESTIN — A Louisiana man died Tuesday morning after being pulled unconscious from the Gulf of Mexico.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about 9:30 a.m. regarding a distressed swimmer in the water off 1001 E. U.S. Highway 98 in Destin, according to an OCSO news release.

Family members said the 47-year-old man from St. Martinsville, Louisiana, entered the water and disappeared from view a short time later.
The man was pulled from the water about 75 yards from the beach and lifesaving measures were taken immediately, OCSO reported. He was declared dead a short time later at a local emergency room.
The victim has not been identified.
