40-year-old man drowns while swimming alone in Gulf of Mexico off Okaloosa Island

Body cam footage from an apparent drowning Sunday morning off Okaloosa Island near the Boardwalk at 1450 Miracle Strip Parkway.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a 40-year-old drowning victim was pulled from the Gulf of Mexico Sunday morning. 

Witnesses said the man was seen swimming alone about 8:15 a.m. off Okaloosa Island near the Boardwalk at 1450 Miracle Strip Parkway, according to an OCSO news release. They then noticed he had disappeared from view.

In Destin:Louisiana man dies after being pulled unconscious from Gulf of Mexico near Destin

A man swam out to check on the swimmer and pulled him ashore. EMS and Beach Safety personnel performed CPR and rushed the man to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, OCSO reported. 

He was pronounced dead a short time later. The man has not been identified and his address has not been released at this time.
