FORT WALTON BEACH — HCA Healthcare North Florida Division has announced the appointment of Zach McCluskey as chief executive officer of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, effective Dec. 6.

In his new role, McCluskey will oversee the growing 267-bed hospital that has served the Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa counties for more than 45 years.

McCluskey will assume leadership from Mitch Mongell, a 25-year veteran of HCA Healthcare. A nationwide search started for the new CEO after Mongell announced his retirement earlier this year.

He has built a talented team of professionals who care deeply about the communities we serve and he should be very proud of the legacy he leaves.

"We are excited to have someone of Zach’s caliber join the team and continue to advance HCA Healthcare’s mission and focus of caring like family for our patients and colleagues,” he added.

McCluskey most recently served as chief executive officer of HCA Healthcare’s Johnston-Willis Hospital, a 292-bed facility and campus of CJW Medical Center in Richmond. Prior to his tenure there, McCluskey was CEO at Parham Doctors’ Hospital, where under his leadership it became a top 5% orthopedic hospital in the nation. Prior to his work at Parham, Zach served as chief operating officer at StoneCrest Medical Center in Nashville and associate administrator at HCA Healthcare’s CJW Hospital.

“I am honored to join the HCA Healthcare North Florida Division and become CEO of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center," McCluskey said. "Mitch and his team have made great strides building strong community relationships, and the hospital is consistently recognized as a top general hospital for excellence in quality care and patient safety.

“As the only full service acute care hospital serving the tri-county area, we understand the importance of growing our team of experts and our services to meet the changing needs of our communities, and I look forward to leading this talented team and providing continued strategic growth for the residents of Northwest Florida,” he added.

McCluskey received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
