DESTIN — A new restaurant is making its way to Harbor Boulevard in Destin.

The Fort Walton Beach favorite Taqueria Mi Gente on Beal Parkway is expanding its current Latin and Central American-themed food to the former home of the Ole Time Country Buffet.

Herman Manquez and his business partner Cristian Cubias are planning to open the new restaurant during the second week of July.

Manquez said he wants to bring his Latin American products to the out-of-town visitors as well as make more seating available for patrons. He said the new restaurant will have 35 more tables.

“It’s nonstop lines,” Manquez said of his original location. “There is a need for more seating.”

In the new location, Manquez says he is especially excited to add a cantina where he plans to serve a variety of unique mojitos, margaritas, and martinis.

“That’s my baby,” he said.

Guava, passion fruit, and jalapeno are just a few of the flavors he is hoping to create for martini and margarita lovers.

Manquez started creating his cuisine about 16 years ago when he was one of the only people in Fort Walton Beach selling Latin American food.

He said Cubias are “both very excited about this adventure and ... will love to meet Destin community expectations.”
