Marlins look to defend cross-country title
The Destin Marlins cross-country teams are leaving their mark on the trails this season.
The middle school girls are 6-3, while the boys are 9-0 going in to the Okaloosa County Championships this week. Both teams will be participating in the county event at 4 p.m. today at the Hedrick Center in Fort Walton Beach.
“After a slow start, the girls have really been picking up the tempo and posting solid finishes,” said Coach Ben Kackley. “We think our girls have a good shot at the county title. They are peaking at the right time and can do some damage at the county race.”
As for the Marlin boys, they have remained unbeaten, posting a perfect 9-0.
“As the defending Okaloosa County Champions, we are hungry to hold the trophy again,” Kackley said. “We are impressed with the way the runners have stepped up to fill the gaps left after last year’s eighth graders went on to high school. They have shown us they have what it takes to be contenders this year and we look forward to watching them compete Wednesday night.”
