The Destin Log

Morgan Sports Center in Destin will be the scene of an amazing display of elite athleticism, raw courage and unshakeable determination on Nov. 3.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will compete in a double header that starts at 2 p.m. featuring a match-up against players from the host sponsor, InDyne, followed by a 5 p.m. game against military service members from Eglin AFB, Hurlburt Field and the 7th Special Forces. Both games are free and open to the public.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team represents some of our nation’s bravest and most resilient heroes, soldiers and veterans. Through the use of prosthetics, extensive rehabilitation and disciplined training, these warriors have not only overcome severe injuries sustained while serving in the military/war to defend our country, but excel as competitive athletes.

Opening ceremonies for the games will include a Patriot Guard Riders escort for the team onto the Morgan field, an Honor Guard comprised of all branches of the military posting the colors, a military fly-over and the Niceville Chorus singing the National Anthem. Vendors will be set up around the field for spectators to purchase drinks and food.

The games are a great opportunity for local residents of all ages to come out and witness what can be accomplished with an iron will to overcome any obstacle. As the great Babe Ruth said, “You just can’t beat the person who never gives up.”

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for this event. For more information on how to become a sponsor, contact Donna Riemer at 850-279-6703. Donations to support the team can be made at PurpleHeartsMinistries.org
