Freeport falls in tourney

Both the Freeport boys and girls basketball teams fell in the first two rounds of the 18th annual Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa Basketball Blowout held at Freeport High School.

The Freeport boys lost 67-23 to Bayside Academy of Alabama on Thursday, day one of the 18-team tournament, then 69-25 on day two to White Plains of Alabama.

Caleb King, a senior, led the hometown Freeport Bulldog with 11 points against Bayside and seven against White Plains. Ryder Newman, of Freeport, also scored seven points against White Plains.

In the eight-team girls tournament, Freeport lost 55-31 to Glencoe of Alabama Friday night and then 50-44 in overtime to White Plains on Saturday.

Sophomore Mary Kate Myrick was top scorer for Freeport in both games. Myrick scored 15 points against Glencoe and 22 against White Plains.
