Destin's Sky Rivera won her match against the Davidson Panthers.

The Destin Middle School tennis team recently traveled to Crestview to take on the Davidson Panthers. Despite tornado watches, high winds, a threatening sky and nervous parents, the Marlins pounded the Panthers without losing a match.

The Lady Marlins were led by strong play from Megan Hovenden, Melisse Martineau, Mary Hanna Williams, Ashton Geary and Sky Rivera, who all won their singles' matches handily. In doubles play, Josie Meyler teamed with Anastasia Miller and Lily Stiles paired with Autumn Rivera to blank their opponents.

The Destin boy’s team also overpowered the Panthers with 6-0 victories in singles play from Matthew Bomparola, Holden Zielinski, Grason Shackleford and Austin Spann. Jack Blanchard won 6-1 to round out singles play.

The boy’s doubles team of Zielenski and Carson Miller won 6-2 and Shackleford and Bomparola paired to bagel their opponents 6-0.

Back on their home court at Sandpiper Cove, the Marlins took on a strong Ruckel Rams team from Niceville.

Destin’s Bomparola and Zielinski didn’t think about Ruckel’s depth or quality of play, they thought about winning and leading their team and did so with high quality play. Number one single Bomparola crushed his opponent 6-1 and Destin's No. 2 single player, Zielinski, won a tough match 6-4.

In the others boys matches Carson Miller, Jack Blanchard and Austin Spann all played well in losing efforts.

The Lady Marlins also played well but in the end lost all their matches to the Rams.
