Destin Athletic Club makes move, but still "wants to make you healthy"

Destin Athletic Club is now located on the backside of Shoreline Village and still offers a good workout for the health enthusiast.

They've moved, but not too far.

Destin Athletic Club, known as Destin's original gym, has moved from the front row at Shoreline Village to the backside.

But it is still a user-friendly and non-intimidating facility that helps members and guests improve their health naturally, says Jon Willis.

"We want to be more than a gym. We want to get you healthy," said Willis, who owns the gym along with his wife Alaine. While Jon is a holistic health coach and Alaine teaches yoga, both are personal trainers.

The Willises took over the gym about 10 years ago when it was located on Airport Road. Three years later they moved the gym to Shoreline along U.S. 98 in the middle of Destin.

It opened in its new home last Monday.

Jon said the move was mainly due to economics and the new pricing structure at Shoreline.

"In reality, it's a better space," he said. "It's got a good energy feel to it."

And with the new space, comes a few new programs.

DAC will be adding yoga classes and a Beach Boot Camp on Saturday mornings. The new facility also boasts showers in the women’s bathroom.

Destin Athletic Club has about 500 members, of which some are seasonal.

Local member of five years, Kelly Martine loves working out at DAC.

"A woman can feel comfortable here … and everybody is real sweet," she said.

The club also offers 24-hour access for its members, seven days a week. Memberships are on a month to month basis for singles, couples and families. New members receive a free full fitness evaluation that includes a body composition analysis, cardio testing, strength and flexibility testing and session to set up your exercise program.
