The Destin Lady Marlins finished second in the Okaloosa County Middle School Girls Soccer Tournament after falling 4-0 to the Ruckel Rams of Niceville at Twin Oaks Park last Thursday.

"It was disappointing, but I'm glad we got the chance to play them again," said Destin goalkeeper and team captain Maddie Phillips. Earlier in the season, Destin lost 3-1 to Ruckel.

"I think we had an outstanding season," she said.

Destin suffered only three loses, including the championship game.

"I couldn't have asked for more effort. Everybody put in a lot of work … everybody gave it their all," Phillips said.

Destin held the Rams off until the last few minutes of the first half, when the Rams booted in two goals.

In the second half, Destin again held the Rams at bay until the final minutes of play. Ruckel scored on a corner kick and then on a shot right up the middle.
