Lady Marlins scratch Wildcats in softball action

Gabby Nix connected for three hits, including a home run to lead the Destin Marlins in a 10-5 win over the visiting Meigs Wildcats in middle school softball action Monday afternoon.

Nix, an eighth grader, singled, doubled and slapped a home run in the second inning to give the Marlins a 6-1 lead at the end of two innings.

"Our offense," was the difference in the game, said Destin Coach Brittany Cahoon.

In addition to the multiple hits from Jordan Malave and Miranda Treadway, "We were aggressive on the bases," Cahoon said.

In the third and fourth innings, Destin picked up one run in each inning to stretch their lead to 8-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Marlins scored two more runs, almost run ruling the Wildcats.

In the top of the sixth, Meigs put four runs on the board with Destin holding on for a 10-5 victory.

"Madi Phillips gave us six innings of good pitching," Cahoon said. Savannah Rockwell finished up in the circle for the Marlins.

Up next for Destin is a 4 p.m. makeup game Wednesday at home against the Pryor Pirates.
