Destin All-Stars toppled by Niceville-Valparaiso

Christian Parker came in as relief pitcher for the Destin All-Stars in the third inning during Wednesday's game. He faced 17 batters, struck out four, walked two and gave up five hits.

After winning in the first two rounds of the District 1 11/12 year old Baseball Tournament in Shalimar, the Destin All-Stars lost in the championship round to Niceville-Valparaiso.

Niceville-Valparaiso will advance to Florida Section 1 Tournament held in Shalimar on July 19. They will take on the champions of the District 20.

Destin beat Shalimar 5-4 in the first round, then defeated DeFuniak Springs 16-7 in round two.

In the championship round, Niceville-Valparaiso beat the undefeated Destin All-Stars twice.

On Wednesday, Destin lost 13-8 to Niceville-Valparaiso.

Both teams connected for nine hits, but the difference was Niceville-Valparaiso had a couple of home-run knocks and Destin made a couple of errors.

In the first inning, Destin's Cameron Gagliano singled and scored on a base hit by Wilbur Griffin.

Niceville-Valparaiso answered with four runs on three hits and an error.

Destin tied the score in the top of the second. McDaniel Sumrall and Robby Rush hit back-to-back singles. With one out, Gagliano singled to left center for an RBI. Nicholas Parker singled to right for an RBI and another run slipped in for a tie game.

The deadlock didn't last with Niceville-Valparaiso taking advantage of an error and four walks to up 7-4.

In the bottom of the fourth, Niceville-Valparaiso picked up one more run on a solo shot over the center field fence by Joey Cary.

In the bottom of the fifth, Niceville-Valparaiso batted through the lineup scoring five runs on four hits and an error. T.J. Hart ripped one over the left field fence for two RBIs.

In the top of the sixth, Destin brought in four last runs. Dylan Ogle ripped a triple to left center for an RBI and later scored on a passed ball. Sumrall was hit by a pitch and the next batter struck out. Nathan Payne walked and Gaglian doubled to right for an RBI. Christian Parker grounded out for an RBI. The next batter grounded out to end the game.

On Thursday, Niceville-Valparaiso beat Destin 17-7 to earn the chance to advance to the Section 1 tournament.

9-10 Section 1 Tournament

Destin All-Stars 9-10 team will take on District 20 champions this weekend in the Florida Section 1 Tournament in Niceville.

Games are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on July 12, and 1 p.m. July 13.
