Bruner Spartans shutout Destin Marlins

The Bruner Spartans ground attack overpowered the Destin Marlins for a 36-0 win in middle school football action.

The Spartans rushed for 260 yards, while the Marlins only had 84 yards total offense with 72 coming through the air.

Destin's Jack White completed six of 15 pass attempts for 46 yards, while Harrison Brice completed three of six for 26 yards.

The Spartan ground attack was led by Malik Womack with 90 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Bartley rushed eight times for 63 yards and a touchdown, while Damon Bryant picked up a TD on a 31-yard run.

Destin got the ball first and went to the air immediately with White connecting with Jackson Stanford for a 9-yard gain. Bruner jumped off sides on the next play, giving the Marlins a first down. Destin continued to go to the air, but to no avail. On fourth down, the Marlins' punted and put the ball deep. However, Bruner's Antrel Porter found a hole and scampered back for 93 yards and the touchdown. The two-point conversion was good and Bruner led 8-0 with 6:49 left in the first period.

On Destin's next possession, the Marlins misfired on a snap and fumbled the ball away with Bruner taking over on the 16-yard line.

Two plays later, Bruner was in the end zone on an 8-yard run by Bartley. Bruner failed on the two-point try after being backed up on a holding call.

Destin got the ball again and picked up a first down before turning it over on downs. Brice connected with Cameron Gagliano for a gain of 5 yards, and then Nick Greer picked up 3 and 16 yards for a first down. White, in at quarterback, hit Christian May for an 8-yard strike. However, the Marlins were backed up on the next two plays, turning it over on downs.

Midway of the second quarter, Bruner was on the move when the Marlins knocked the ball loose with Tyler Kersanac making the recovery.

Destin picked up a couple of first downs moving the ball inside the red zone but failed to score. Stanford had a catch for a gain of 18 yards on the drive.

Bruner got the ball back and drove the ball 83 yards in six plays for the score. Womack scored on a 61-yard breakaway. The two-point conversion was good and Bruner led 22-0 at the half.

At the start of the third quarter, the Spartans scored on their opening drive. Bartley had a rush for 38 yards, and then Damon Bryant scored on a 31-yard run up the middle for the score and a 28-0 advantage.

On the ensuing kickoff the Marlins fumbled the ball giving Bruner good field advantage. Four plays later, the Spartans were in the end zone on a 30-yard dash by Womack. Kevon Prince-Robinson scored on the two-point play.

Destin had the ball two more times. They made one first down before turning it over on downs. The second possession was short-lived with a fumble on the first play.
