South Walton Seahawks fall to Liberty County (PHOTOS)

After a 40-40 tie at the half, the South Walton Seahawks fell behind in the fourth for a 94-83 loss to the visiting Liberty County Bulldogs Friday night in boys varsity basketball action at the Hawks Nest.
“We had a lot of opportunities to score we just didn’t do as well as tonight as we have this week,” South Walton Coach John Davies said, noting earlier wins over Bozeman and Holmes County.
“They just played better than us tonight. It was a good game, a hard fought game. They just played better than us tonight,” Davies said as he walked off the court.
Liberty County outscored the Seahawks three out of four quarters with Shannon Mosley hitting for 34 points and Garrett Swiev knocking down 32.
Tops for the Seahawks was Stephen Stroop with 33 points. Grant Burden and Josh McGrath each scored 17.

In the first quarter, Liberty County jumped out to a 26-18 lead. Burden led the Seahawk effort with two 3-pointers and a couple of twos.
South Walton came roaring back in the second period with 22 points to Liberty’s 14 to tie the game at 40-40 at the half. Contributing for South Walton were Stroop, Burden, McGrath, Paxton Dixon and Blake Butler.
In the third, the Seahawks hit for 21 points, while Liberty scored 24. McGrath scored nine points, and Stroop eight.
In the fourth, South Walton kept the game close with Stroop knocking down three 3s down the stretch. However, the Seahawks found themselves having to foul to stop the clock. Liberty County scored 30 points in the fourth for the win.
“They just executed what they wanted to do, better than we executed what we wanted to do,” Davies said.
For the game, South Walton was 12 of 16 from the free-throw line, while Liberty hit 12 of 27 tries.
Up next for South Walton is a 7 p.m. game Thursday at West Gadsden.
