Former Steelers to head up football camp

Three former Pittsburgh Steelers will be making their way to Destin in July to host a Football Camp along with the Destin Life Center at Destin United Methodist Church.

Ernie Mills, Ray Seals and Yancey Thigpen along with others will be conducting the camp July 17-18. Cost is $100 per player and is open to all eighth graders and up.

Youth will get a chance to hear from the former professionals as well as work with them during the two-day event.

The camp kicks off at 1 p.m. Friday at the Life Center.

Coaches will talk with the youth about the game as well as the game of life.

“They will learn what is it to be a great person on and off the field,” said James Sisco, who is helping to organize the two-day camp.

On Friday evening, from 7-9 p.m., youth along with their parents will have a chance to attend a banquet for the players at the Life Center. Player fee includes dinner, and extra dinners can be purchased at the door for $20 per plate.

Saturday, camp begins at 8 a.m. at the football field behind Destin Elementary School. Players will warmup with exercise and stretches then break into groups, running back, wide receivers, defense, etc. They will also receive instruction on things to look out for as well as how to play the position properly, Sisco said.

The youth will break for lunch and will be bused back to the Life Center where lunch will be provided by Jimmy John’s.

From 1-4 p.m. they will be back on the ball field.

“This will be agility practice, where they will be able to challenge each other,” Sisco said.
