Destin runners place at Invitational
This past weekend, the Destin Middle School cross country team participated in the Florida Runner’s Invitational at Titusville with the teams placing in the top five.
The Destin girls placed fourth overall while the boys took fifth overall. And when it was all said and done the Destin runners as a whole earned sixth overall, plus they qualified for state.
“We are blessed to have such committed and competitive runners at DMS,” said Tina Baron, cross country coach.
“As a cross country team we have both seasoned and new members this year, but the athletes’ combined talent, teamwork and dedication have made us stronger and faster. I am very proud of our girls and boys, and am excited for the rest of this season,” Barron said.
At the Invitational the average time was 13:20 and Destin’s Luke Bilger finished at 12:02 and Kambry Smith crossed at 13:31.
Up next for Destin is a 4 p.m. meet Sept. 30 at Pryor Middle School. Participating schools are Destin, Pryor and Shoal River.
