Peewee Dolphins come up short versus Niceville 2

In a tough game last weekend, the Destin Peewee Dolphins lost to Niceville 2, 27-6.

With the loss, the Dolphins record sits at 3-2 going into week seven of the nine-week season.

The Dolphins seemed a little off on both sides of the ball, most likely due to missing three key starters in the game including Will Blanchard, Baylen Knox and Kadon Chapman. The slightly faster and bigger Eagles team was able to get around the edges of the Dolphin’s defense a number of times while the Dolphin’s offense also struggled to pick up all the required blocks to be effective.

The Dolphins still fought hard to the very end and were not without their own impressive plays.

On offense, Mason Wetzel led the team with 13 carries for 142 yards including the only touchdown for the Dolphins in the game. Owen Davis had an impressive first appearance at running back this season with five carries for 30 yards. Maddox Hayles accumulated 18 yards, Braxton Beard ran for 7 yards, and Calvin Blackman rushed for 3 yards.

On the defensive side, the Dolphins showcased their many talented players with Mason Wetzel, Landon Ulrich, and Cadin Wells making six tackles each. Davis and John Castaneda each had five tackles while Beard and Hayles each had four tackles of their own. Zac Dixon and Blackman helped out with two tackles each as well.

While it was a tough loss to the Eagles team, the Dolphins will be hungry for a win Saturday against Niceville 3 at 10 a.m. at the field near Destin Elementary.

Captains for the game were Jackson Cox, Cadin Moreland, Connor Rising and Brayden Watters.
