Basketball clinic

A free pre-season clinic for boys and girls (grades 1-4) will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Destin Community Center on Nov. 2-5. The city of Destin has assembled an experienced basketball staff of former college players, and middle school, high school and semi-professional coaches to work on the fundamentals of basketball with the youth.

Destin area residents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible at 654-5184. Bring a non-perishable food item for admission.

Veteran’s Day 5K

The Veteran’s Day 5K run/walk is set to start at 8 a.m. on Nov. 7 at the Destin American Legion Post on Main Street.

Entry fee is $30 with proceeds going to Team RWB, Building Homes for Heroes and Main Street Betterment Alliance.

An awards ceremony will follow at the American Legion. Kids and wheelchair are welcomed to participate in the event.

I Support Thin Blue Line 5K

Local 4413 Professional Firefighters of Walton County will host the I Support Thin Blue Line 5K on Nov. 7 at the Freeport Lake Club of Hammock Bay.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on race day or runners can pre-register at Cost is $35 for all race participants.

The runners race will begin at 9 a.m. with the walkers starting at 9:30 a.m.

This event is dedicated to all Law Enforcement Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to the families of the fallen. 

Youth Basketball League

Register by Nov. 10 for the city of Destin Youth Basketball League ages 3-16 played at the Destin Community Center.

Practices start the week of Nov. 18 with game starting on Dec. 4. Fees are $45 for Destin residents and $55 for non-residents. Team sponsorships of $125 are needed. For more information, call 654-5184.

Lulu’s Marlin 5K Walk/Run set Nov. 14

Destin Middle School along with Lulu’s Restaurant will host the first-ever Lulu’s Marlin 5K Walk/Run at 8 a.m. on Nov. 14 in the Regatta Bay community.

The course will be an out and back, fast and flat through a gated residential area.

Bayou, Bay and Beach run events

Destin’s 6th annual Bayou, Bay and Beach 5K Run/Walk, 10K and Half Marathon sponsored by Shoreline Church is set for Jan. 23, 2016.

The 10K and Half Marathon courses are USA Track and Field-certificd. While all courses are set alongside Destin waterways, the half marathon course yields breathtaking views of Choctawhatchee Bay, Destin harbor and East Pass, as it leads you through Destin, along a 4-mile undeveloped stretch of Okaloosa Island and back.

This year’s theme is Beach Bums. Wear your floral shirts, floppy hats, board shorts, bikinis, floaties, sunglasses … whatever says beach vacation to you.
