Peewee Dolphins capture win over Niceville-3
The Peewee Dolphins added another “W” to their record on Saturday against the Nicville-3 Eagles with an 18-0 win at home.
It was a very tough fought game for both teams with impressive play from each squad. In the end, however, the Dolphin’s defense was able to maintain a shutout against the Eagles while the offense worked methodically to put three Dolphin touchdowns on the scoreboard.
The Eagles offense focused primarily on the run-game up the middle and the Dolphins defense caught on quickly.
Middle linebacker Owen Davis led the defense with 16 tackles as the Eagle’s tried to punch through the middle. Maddox Hayles brought down the ball carrier 12 times and Braxton Beard followed suit with 10 tackles in the game. Mason Wetzel had seven tackles, Kadon Chapman had three, and Landon Ullrich, Calvin Blackman, Carter Phillips and Zac Dixon each had two tackles apiece.
On offense, quarterback Hayles led the way with 175 yards in 20 carries including two touchdowns. Owen Davis showed he could gain yards after contact with 52 yards in six carries and the third Dolphins touchdown. Wetzel contributed 36 yards in 11 carries along with Chapman who got 6 yards in two carries.
“Nothing was given to us for free in this game” said Destin Coach Nate Beard.
“We had to fight hard, and play real assignment football to win today.”
The Dolphins were hungry for a win following their previous loss to the Niceville-2 team and it showed. They showed up to the field rested, focused and ready to play football.
