Destin Marlin cross country teams win invitational

Destin Middle School made a clean sweep in the Destin Invitational cross country meet last weekend at Morgan Sports Center in Destin.

Out of 11 middle schools participating, both the Destin girls and boys cross country teams won in the Destin Invitational last weekend.

Finishing behind Destin in both races were Liza Jackson of Fort Walton Beach and Emerald Coast Middle of South Walton.

The top six finishers in each event qualified to run at the state competition this weeked in Lakeland.

"We have had a remarkable season this year,” said Destin Coach Tina Barron.

“Our runners have put their time, talents, and energy into every practice and meet. Their dedication and perseverance have paid off, and we are so very proud of all they have accomplished this fall. Our girls defended and won the county title, and our boys reestablished themselves as county champs,” she said.

“Both teams demonstrated strength and dominance at each meet, and the rapport among our runners has contributed to our continued success. We look forward to state this weekend, and an excellent showing by our boys and girls."

As for the Destin Invitational last weekend, Destin girls placing in the top 10 were Kambry Smith, Maguire Holahan, Jayden Horne, Halle Bright, Clarabeth Lafollette and Delaney Cookman.

Destin boys finishing in the top 10 were Luke Bilger, Evan Olsen, Ishmael Hurst, Austin Paugh and Theo Cross.

Placing in the top 10 coed open race from Destin Middle were Lauren Adams, Maile Sweeney, Sydney Eubanks, Wesley Heyse, Mason Brundidge and Dalton Williams.
