In a close contest, the Destin Marlins came up short 29-21 to the visiting Meigs Wildcats in girls middle school basketball action Monday night.

“The girls played hard,” said Destin Coach Kersten Bowman.

“We played great defense. We went five of 14 from the foul line which could have drastically changed the tone of the game towards the end.”

At the half, the game was tied at 17-17.

Meigs pulled away in the last half for the win.

“My girls had more shot opportunities in this game than we have had in any other this season. The shots just didn’t fall in our favor this go around,” Bowman said.

Top scorer for Destin was Maya Sherwood with nine points.

Up next for Destin is a 5 p.m. game Wednesday at Ruckel in Niceville.
