Chipley Tigers clip Seahawks

From start to finish, the Chipley Tigers dominated on the court to beat the South Walton Seahawks 68-43 in boys varsity basketball action Tuesday night at the Hawks Nest.

Chipley put up 19 points before South Walton got a shot to fall. South Walton’s Jonathan Bekkers was fouled while trying to take a 3-point shot. With 1:19 left in the first quarter, Bekkers went to the line and hit the last two tries. Seconds later, Mason Hall put a rebound back for two points and then Chipley finished up the period with a shot from Brian Williams. Chipley led 21-4 at the buzzer.

In the second quarter, Chipley continued to outscore the Seahawks 16-7 with Noah Gustason making six for the Tigers and Daniel Floyd tossing in five. South Walton’s Bekkers and Gabriel Reeves each scored a basket, while James Holloway hit a shot and a free throw. Chipley was on top 37-11 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Seahawks hung with the Tigers putting up 14 to their 15. Hall led the Seahawk effort with seven points, while Holloway added five.

In the final period, South Walton outscored Chipley 18-16 with Hall again leading the way. Hall nailed a 3-pointer, two field goals and five from the free throw line. Reeves and Bekkers each knocked down a 3-pointer.

For the game, South Walton was led by Hall with 21 points. Holloway scored eight and Bekkers seven.

Tops for the Tigers were Gustason with 18 followed by Brian Williams and Daniel Floyd with 10 each.

Up next for South Walton is a road game Monday. The Seahawks will take on the Ponce de Leon Pirates at 7 p.m.
