Both the Destin Middle School girls and boys soccer teams posted wins on the field Wednesday evening over St. Mary’s in their last home game of the season.

The Destin girls won 1-0 with Mariah Manthey scoring the lone goal.

“I think the temperature affected our play, we didn't connect passes like we had been the past few games,” said Destin girls coach Demetris Stevens.

“Fortunately, our defense was solid again and we got our sixth shutout of the season. Those girls don't get the recognition of goal scores but, Maguire, Kathryn, Kaylin, Brooklyn, Lauren, Adrianna, and Natalie, have really kicked butt as a unit this year,” he said.

“I have to give credit to St. Mary's players and coaching staff, they played a great game,” Stevens said.

“After being outplayed in the first half, our girls responded well and we got the goal we needed early in the second half. The goal came from a great through ball played by Jayden Horne and finished by Mariah Manthey, as the keeper was coming out to make the save.

“I am really glad the eighth graders all got to get a win in their last home regular season game at Destin,” Stevens said.

As for the Destin boys, they won 3-0 with Cameron Hunter kicking in two goals and Michael O’Leary, one.

In between the girls and the boys game, the Destin eighth graders were recognized.

Destin eighth grade girls are Maile Sweeney, Kayla Melton, Shallan Lochtefeld, Clara Beth LaFollette, Jayden Horne, Ainsley Barousse, Caitlyn Ream, Maguire Holahan, Halle Bright, Delaney Cookman, Lauren Adams and Nathalia Matos.

Eighth grade boys are Cameron Hunter, Broc McPherson, Logan Pakiz and Griffin Wilbur.

Destin’s last regular season game is Monday in Fort Walton Beach against the Bruner Spartans. Boys play at 5 p.m., girls follow at 6 p.m.
