Destin Marlins slip by St. Mary's on the courts

In a close contest, both the boys and girls Destin Marlin tennis teams won 4-3 over St. Mary’s in middle school action.

“The team really had to pull together to win the matches overall,” said Destin Coach Ronda Pridgen.

“For both boys and girls we needed one doubles match of two to declare victory and both teams did it,” she said.

In doubles play, Sophie Cohen and Ainsley Barousee teamed up to post a 6-2 win for the Marlins, while Lily Stiles and Madison Pridgen lost a close one 6-5.

In singles play, Barousee won 6-2 for Destin. Cohen and Madison Clark each won their matches 6-3.

Stiles lost 6-1 and Pridgen fell 6-3.

As for the boys, Destin’s Brody Miller and Beck Holahan teamed up for a 6-0 win in doubles. Hudson Akers and Hawke Yohe also won 6-2 for the Marlins.

Miller dominated in his singles match as well, posting a 6-0 victory. Holahan won 6-1, and Ethan Eubanks won 6-4.

Destin’s Eason Ingram lost 6-5, and Ty Suchevits lost 6-4.

Up next for Destin is a 4 p.m. match at Sandpiper Cove against the Meigs Wildcats.
