Marlins pillage the Pirates

Braden Runnels led the Destin girls with two doubles and two singles in their 14-4 win over Pryor.

Both the Destin Middle School baseball and softball teams posted wins on the diamond against the Pryor Pirates on Monday in Fort Walton Beach.

The Marlin baseball team whipped the Pirates 10-5.

Jackson Smith led the Marlin bats with four hits for five RBIs. Benton Henderson connected for two hits and Christian Ford had an RBI.

Destin stepped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and then picked up six runs in the fourth for a 9-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth, Pryor scored three and then Destin answered in the top of the sixth with one run.

Pryor scored two last runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Ford threw five innings against the Pirates, striking out seven, while Henderson finished up the last two with two strikeouts.

In softball, the Lady Marlins blasted the Pirates 14-4.

Top batters for the Marlins were Braden Runnels, who went four-for-four with two doubles and two singles for three RBIs; Miranda Treadway, four-for-four with a double and three singles for three RBIs; Caitlyn Ream, two-for-two with a triple and a single for four RBIs; and Samantha Sherer, two-for-three with two singles and a RBI.

Up next for both Destin teams are 4 p.m. games Wednesday at Davidson Middle School in Crestview.
