Lady Marlins whip Spartans on the diamond
In their last regular season game, the Destin Marlins whipped the visiting Bruner Spartans 15-5 in middle school softball action Monday afternoon.
“They all did good,” said Destin Coach Brittany Cahoon. “The eighth graders did amazing.”
Eighth graders on the team include Caitlyn Ream, Madison LaRumbe, Maddie Phillips, Savannah Rockwell, Livia Hughes, Morgan Ketchersid and Tori Kuehn.
In the game, Bruner got on the board first in the top of the first with one run.
Destin answered in the bottom half with three runs.
In the second, the Marlins picked up five runs, then exploded in the third for seven runs and a 15-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Destin’s pitcher started to struggle and walked in four runs before Cahoon made a pitching change. Savannah Rockwell finished in the circle for the Marlins allowing no runs in the fifth for a 15-5 victory.
Top batters for Destin were Braden Runnels with two doubles and two RBIs, Miranda Treadway with a double and a single for two RBIs, Ream doubled and singled for three RBIs, Rockwell hit a triple, and Bailey Phillips singled.
The Marlins will face Davidson at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Destin in the Okaloosa County Middle School Softball Playoffs.
