Tennis team makes good showing at county

They didn’t win, but the Destin Marlins made a good showing as a team at the Okaloosa County Middle School Tennis Championships at the Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center this week.

The Destin boys finished third while the girls took fourth.

Nevertheless, Destin Coach Ronda Pridgen was still proud of their effort.

“This team has been a true team throughout the season,” Pridgen said. “Even though tennis is usually an individual sport, this Destin Middle School tennis team creates a unique bond to support each other on and off the court,” she said.

In singles play on Wednesday, all Destin players won their first match. However, Madison Clark and Beck Holahan won their second matches, but lost in the finals.

On Thursday, Destin’s Lily Stiles won her first match, but lost the second.

As for Holahan, he made it to the semi-finals to play “his best match ever,” Pridgen said.

“Beck stayed calm as he went for every shot and never backed down,” she said.

Holahan lost 7-5.
