For the fifth time in six years, the Destin Middle School Marlin boy’s golf team has earned the title of county champions.

The Marlins took first place in the Okaloosa County Middle School Golf Tournament played at Eglin Golf Course in Niceville Thursday.

Destin won by two strokes over the Ruckel Rams in the nine-hole tournament.

Low scorers for Destin were Parker Milam with a 37; Blake Rigdon, 38; Brandon Vanhoy, 41; Tyler Clark, 42; Tanner Morgan, 44; and Parker Searle, 45.

The top five made the All-Tournament team.

“We had a great season only losing once to Ruckel, but beating them twice during the regular season,” said Destin Coach Kelly Richbourg. “The boys worked hard and it showed with them wining the county championship.

“We are still a young team and hope to continue the tradition of winning in golf at Destin Middle School in the years to come,” Richbourg added. “I am very proud of every member on the team.”

Other members of the team include Cole Farrah, Kannon Goodman and Isaiah Bataora.

As for the Destin girls, they placed second with Ruckel taking first.

Destin’s No. 1 seed Maddie Tenore, however, was the low medalist for the tournament shooting a one under par 35 across nine holes.

Other low scorers for the Lady Marlins were Emily Reyna with a 47; Gracie Chandler, 52; Riley Conroy, 54; Aaliyah Miille, 64; and Lily Rice, 63.

Tenore, Reyna and Chandler were all named to the All-Tournament team.
