Destin's Andrew Daigle finished second in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 50 butterfly county meet.

The Destin Middle School boys swim team ended up tied for second in the county and took home their runner-up trophy from Saturday’s Okaloosa County Middle School Relay meet.

Their second place finish was determined by their wins during the regular season.

They ended with a 3-2 record, losing only to county champs Ruckel Middle School and Liza Jackson Preparatory school, which edged them out in the last meet of the season.

The team effort was led by seventh grader Connor Bartlett, who ended the season with two county records, a 30.48 in the 50 breast and a 23.15 in the 50 free.

Coach Terry Gulledge said he was very proud of all of his swimmers.

“Everyone said, ‘All you have is Conner,’ but I had an awesome group of fifth and sixth graders who picked up the pace and really made dramatic improvements in their times this season,” he said.

The eight-meet season began in late March and ended Saturday.
