The Destin Marlins bumped their season record to 5-1 on Monday with a 25-19, 25-16 win over the visiting St. Mary’s Archangels in middle school volleyball action.

“We started slow again and our passing was all over the place,” said Destin Coach Kersten Bowman. “When we get a pass to target it’s consistent … pass, set, kill for us. But otherwise you never know what’s going to happen.”

In the first game, the score was tied five times before Destin put it away. About midway through the first game, Destin made a little run on St. Mary’s with Arleigh Foster serving up four straight points with help on a kill shot from Ashby Deep. Destin led 15-12.

St. Mary’s battled back with Michelle Marino making four points for a 17-15 game.

Destin tied the score one last time with Carsyn Tillman at the line and then pulled ahead 19-17.

St. Mary’s picked up a point, then Destin's Bailey Phillips served up two with Anna Marie Knowles hammering two home for the Marlins. Destin finished up with Taylor Flint at the line and Knowles slammed in the last point for a 25-19 win.

In game two, Destin made three runs on the Archangels for the win.

With the score tied at 9-9, St. Mary’s missed and Destin’s Tillman served up two to go up 12-9. The second run came a few minutes later with Flint at the line, who served up three for a 17-11 game. After St. Mary’s scored three, Destin strung together five consecutive points. The Marlins wrapped it up with Phillips and Deep hammering in the last two points for the win.

Up next for Destin is a 4 p.m. game Wednesday at Liza Jackson in Fort Walton Beach.
