Destin runners place third in Invitational

Out of six schools participating, the Destin Marlins boys and girls cross country teams placed third in the Destin Invitational held this past weekend at Destin Middle School.

Ruckel Middle School of Niceville took first, while Emerald Coast Middle School of Santa Rosa Beach came in second and Destin finished up third. Other schools participating included Pryor, Liza Jackson and St. Mary’s, all of Fort Walton Beach.

Top female runner from Ruckel was Lillian Holtery finishing at 10:42. First for Emerald Coast and third overall was Kalah Timberlake at 11:54.

Destin’s Kambry Smith was second overall at 11:25. Smith, along with Sophie Kellogg and Sara Crews, medaled for the Destin girls in the top 15. Makenzi Maltezo, Kerry Seekamp, Amelia Kline, Grayson King, Madi Brice and Sarah Kellogg medaled for Destin junior varsity girls.

In the boy’s competition, Ruckel’s top male runner was Sean Dickerson, who was fourth overall at 10:44.

Deyvi Inestroza of Emerald Coast was first overall at 10:29, and Destin’s Luke Bilger finished third overall at 10:33.

Bilger, Theo Cross and Carson Hickok all medaled for the Destin varsity boys. Dalton Ousley medaled for the Destin boy’s junior varsity squad.

Up next for the Destin cross country team is a trip to the FLYRA State Championships this Saturday at Holloway Park in Lakeland.
