Harbor Docks wins big in first round of tournament

Harbor Docks secured two victories in the first round of play in the Men’s Fall Division II Softball Tournament at Morgan Sports Center this week.

Harbor Docks defeated 30 Aces 31-19 in the first game and then beat World Famous Crab Island 32-10 to advance in the winner’s bracket.

Harbor Docks will take on the winner of the World Famous Crab Island vs. Sunsouth at 8 p.m. Nov. 1 in the double elimination tournament. If Harbor Docks wins they are the champions, however if they lose the two teams will play again at 8 p.m. Nov. 8 for the title.

In the first game, Harbor Docks was led by Luke Smith who ripped four singles and a double for an RBI in the win over 30 Aces.

At the end of two innings, the game was tied at 11-11. In the bottom of the third, Harbor Docks exploded for 12 runs and then put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with eight runs.

Matt Reich hit a double and three singles for Harbor Docks. Eddie Morgan slapped two homers and Brandon Patzig, one.

Tops for 30 Aces were Corey Griffith with four singles for an RBI; Bobby Griffith, a triple and two singles for an RBI; Jude Stogner, home run and two singles for three RBIs; and Jameson Henshaw, one home run.

In Harbor Docks second game, they blasted World Famous Crab Island 32-10.

By the end of three innings, Harbor Docks had the game in hand, 23-7.

Eddie Morgan cranked out a grand slam, a triple and two singles for six RBIs for Harbor Docks. David Nelson tripled and hit four singles for two RBIs, and Matt Reich connected for two doubles and three singles for two RBIs. Phillip Vlahos hit a two-run homer.

Allen Owens tripled and singled for two RBIs for Crab Island. Rick Owens hit two singles for three RBIs, and Ruben Holt connected for two doubles for two RBIs.

In other tournament action:

World Famous Crab Island 22, Sunsouth 21

After going scoreless in the first inning, Crab Island made up for lost time in the second inning for a 9-7 lead. Crab Island picked up three runs in the third and five in the fourth to stay on top 17-14.

Top batters for Crab Island were Rick Owens with two doubles and three singles for five RBIs. Quinn Crozier hit four singles for three RBIs, and jarred Dunn four singles for two RBIs. Rick Ivey hit an inside-the-park home run.

Joe Livingston knocked in five runs for Sunsouth on a double and three singles. Todd Schrag hit three singles, and Frank Lazano, tripled, doubled and singled for five RBIs.

Sunsouth 19, 30 Aces 7

At the end of two innings, Sunsouth led 11-0 and then stretched it to 17-2 in the third.

Joe Kerns was the big hitter for Sunsouth with two triples and two doubles for two RBIs. Joe Livingston tripled and hit two singles for an RBI, and Shawn Sheppard doubled and singled for an RBI. Jeremy Bullock ripped a home run.

Jude Stogner hit three singles for an RBI for 30 Aces. Jeff Tullis doubled and singled for two RBIs, and Corey Griffith hit a triple and a single.
