Harbor Docks, Crab Island to square off for title

With one loss each, Harbor Docks and World Famous Crab Island will play for the title in the Men’s Division II Softball Tournament at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan Sports Center in Destin.

Harbor Docks was undefeated going into the semi-finals this week, and then they came up against Crab Island, who handed them a 17-7 loss in the double-elimination tournament. Last week, Harbor Docks sent Crab Island to the loser’s bracket on a 32-10 beating.

But on Tuesday it was Crab Island who finished on top. The game got off to a slow start with Crab Island up 2-1 at the end of two innings.

In the top of the third, Crab Island pulled away with seven runs and then held Harbor Docks to one in the bottom.

Harbor Docks gained some ground in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, but Crab Island answered with four in the sixth and seventh innings for the win.

Shayne Bryant hit three singles for two RBIs for Crab Island. Kavika Crozier connected for three singles for an RBI, and Rick Ivey ripped two doubles.

Phillip Vlahos tripled and hit two singles for Harbor Docks, while Luke Smith doubled and hit two singles for an RBI, and Matt Morrison hit two singles.

In other tournament action:

World Famous Crab Island 13, Sunsouth 12

At the end of the first inning, the game was tied at 4-4. Crab Island edged ahead in the second, 6-5.

In the third, Sunsouth scored three and Crab Island brought in two for an 8-8 deadlock.

In the top of the fourth, Sunsouth took the lead with three runs. Crab Island answered with one in the bottom for an 11-9 advantage.

Crab Island got the lead back in the bottom of the sixth with three runs, but Sunsouth tied it up again in the top of the seventh at 12-12. In the bottom half, Crab Island scored the one run needed for the win.

Quinn Crozier connected for four hits and two RBIs for Crab Island. Rick Owens tripled, doubled and singled for three RBIs, and J.B. Solians tripled and hit two singles.

Mike Jones led Sunsouth with three singles for an RBI. Mike Stoltz hit two singles for an RBI, and Todd Schrag doubled and singled for an RBI.
