The Pryor Pirates dominated on the court for a 42-14 win over the Destin Marlins in girl’s middle school basketball action earlier this week in Fort Walton Beach.

The Pirates outscored Destin every quarter.

Pryor got on the board first with a basket from Marissa Brown. Destin answered with a jumper from Maya Sherwood. The Marlins, playing physical, sent the Pirates to the foul line four times in the next couple of minutes with the Pirates cashing in for six more points and an 8-2 lead. Destin’s Sherwood made another jumper in the final seconds for an 8-4 game.

In the second quarter, Destin’s Sherwood knocked down a 3-pointer for a 10-7 game, which was as close as the Marlins would come in the contest. At that point, the Pirates went on a 14-point scoring spree with Mone Florence tossing in six points and Tami Cooper four. Pryor led 24-7 at the half.

Pryor continued to command the game in the third, scoring 11 unanswered points to start. KK Brown hit three baskets back-to-back-back and Alexis Becker tossed in 3 points. In the last two minutes, Sherwood scored a basket and drained her second 3-pointer for the Marlins and a 35-12 game at the buzzer.

In the fourth period, Pryor outscored Destin 7-2 with Sherwood making the lone goal for Destin about midway through the period.

Up next for Destin is a 6:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Davidson Middle School in Crestview.
