Merica wins softball tournament

Matt Reich knocked in nine runs to lead Merica in a 23-22 win over Emerald Coast Chiropractic in the championship game of the Coed Division II Softball League Tournament at Morgan Sports Center in Destin.

Reich clobbered a grand slam in the second, plus hit two other home runs for a total of nine RBIs.

In the first inning, Chiropractic scored seven runs. Merica closed the gap in the top of the second with six runs, however, Chiropractic answered with two in the bottom for an 8-6 game.

In the top of the third, Merica took the lead with five runs and remained on top throughout. In the bottom of the seventh, Chiropractic threatened with seven runs, but came up short falling by one run.

Andrew Fish connected for three doubles and a single for an RBI for Merica, while Hannah Aspordites singled.

Teresa Imdieke hit four singles for an RBI for Chiropractic. Clint Clemens ripped two home runs and a single for five RBIs, and John Corlew hit two singles and an inside-the-park home run for three RBIs.

In other tournament action:

Merica 27, 30A 20

Merica jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first two innings. In the top of the third, Merica picked up three runs. In the bottom half, 30A evened the score with nine runs.

In the fourth, both teams scored two runs to keep the game deadlocked.

In the top of the fifth, Merica exploded with the 10-run limit for a 23-13 advantage. In the last inning, Merica picked up four more runs, while 30A scored seven.

Jason Jamison led Merica with four singles for five RBIs. Jane Blankenship hit three singles for six RBIs, and Hollie Henderson doubled and singled for three RBIs.

Allison Arreguin hit three singles for four RBIs for 30A. Adam Vafides doubled and hit three singles for three RBIs, and Lauren Reinlie connected for three singles and two RBIs.

Emerald Coast Chiropractic 20, Emerald Coast Alarms 8

At the end of two innings, Emerald Coast Chiropractic led 6-4. In the next two innings, Chiropractic began to pull away scoring five in the third, and two in the fourth. Chiropractic put the game away in the fifth with seven runs, for a 12-run ruling on the game.

Todd Preston smacked a homer and two doubles for five RBIs for Chiropractic. Shawn Woods hit three doubles and a single for two RBIs, and Susie Pierce hit three singles for two RBIs. John Corlew hit two inside-the-park home runs for five RBIs.

Michelle Williams was tops for EC Alarms with three singles for three RBIs. Nic Reimer doubled and singled for two RBIs, and Matt Wright doubled and singled.
