Carson Hickok kicked in two goals to lead the Destin Marlins in a 3-0 shutout over the visiting Meigs Wildcats in boys’ middle school soccer action on Tuesday.

Hickok scored the first and the last goals to boost the Marlins to 5-1 on the season.

“We’ve been playing very consistent all season,” said Destin Coach Carlos Gonclaves.

“Our philosophy is that if you play the ball on the ground and try to score when you have opportunity … so far so good,” he said.

About 10 minutes into the game, Hickok took control of the ball about midfield and brought it down the left side before he booted it into the right corner of the goal.

“I give freedom for Carson to go because he is a very fast player,” Gonclaves said.

“He came from behind and nobody expected … that was a very good goal. We trained for him to go and use his speed.”

Just minutes before the half, Destin’s Austin Paugh nailed a corner kick for a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, L.J. Figueroa, Michael O’Leary and Devonnie Firson each made attempts at goals.

In the last minute, Hickok booted in a free kick for a 3-0 finish.

Gonclaves said he was pleased with the win, but the team needs to improve because tougher games are yet to come.

Up next for the Marlins is a 6:15 p.m. game Thursday, Jan. 5.
