Lady Marlins shutout Bruner

The Destin Marlins put the Bruner Spartans away in short order in middle school softball action in Destin Monday afternoon.

The Marlins collected nine hits in the 13-0 shutout with Bailey Phillips, Braden Runnels and Miranda Treadway connecting for two hits each.

In the first inning, Destin scored three runs. With two runners on base, Runnels ripped a triple to left field for two RBIs and later scored herself on a passed ball.

In the second, the Marlins picked up four more runs. Phillips, Treadway and Mary Owens each connected for singles.

In the third, Destin put another four on the board. This time Phillips slapped a double to left center, Aylanni Enriquez and Runnels singled and Treadway belted a triple to right center.

Destin scored two last runs in the fourth on walks and a hit from Olivia Beard.

For the game, Owens went the distance in the pitching circle for the Marlins allowing only four hits in the five-inning shutout.

Up next for Destin is a 4 p.m. game at home Wednesday against the Pryor Pirates.
