TayGray wins, advances to championship game

TayGray Photography beat Tailfins Merica 29-20 to advance to the championship game of the Coed Division I Softball League end-of-season tournament at Morgan Sports Center in Destin.

TayGray will take on Free Agents at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for the title game. If Free Agents win, it’s over. If not, there will be a second game at 8 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.

In the win over Tailfins, TayGray took an early 9-6 lead in the second inning. In the fourth, TayGray exploded for the 10-run limit and a 26-14 advantage. Tailfins battled back with six in the fifth. TayGray finished up with two in the fifth and one in the sixth for the win as time ran out.

Michael Haynes led TayGray with two home runs, two doubles and a single for six RBIs. Austin Jessup hit two doubles and two singles, and Jennifer Phillips hit three doubles.

Justin Lund hit a grand slam, double and a single for six RBIs for Tailfins. Amy Holt tripled and hit three singles for two RBIs, and Zach Raya homered, tripled and singled for three RBIs. Justin Beique slapped a home run.

In earlier tournament play, Tailfins beat Clemenza’s Uptown 23-16.

Tailfins started with a bang scoring the 10-run limit in the bottom of the first. They led 16-7 at the end of three.

Lund cranked out a home run, triple and two singles for seven RBIs for Tailfins. Jane Blanken belted a double and four singles for four RBIs, and Hollie Henderson tripled and hit two singles.

Joseph Feltner led Clemenza’s with two doubles and a single for an RBI. Kristy Small tripled and singled for two RBIs, and Anthony Bartollo hit three singles.


Emerald Coast Chiropractic beat La Paz 27-23.

La Paz led 10-6 at the end of three and 14-13 in the fourth. In the top of the sixth, Emerald Coast exploded for 10 runs and a 23-22 lead. Emerald Coast put four more on the board in the seventh and La Paz one.

Clint Clemens tripled, hit three doubles and two singles for two RBIs for Emerald Coast.

Joey Bionca hit two triples, two doubles and a single for two RBIs for La Paz, while Joey Livingston hit two singles for two RBIs.

Emerald Coast will play Wing Stop at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for the championship. If Wing Stop wins, it’s over. If Emerald Coast wins they will play again at 8 p.m.

In earlier tournament action, La Paz beat Island Wings 19-18.

Bionca led La Paz with three triples, two doubles and two singles for two RBIs.

Top batter for Island Wings was Todd Schrag with two triples, two doubles and two singles for two RBIs.
