DESTIN — Not only was the crew aboard the fishing vessel Home Grown with Capt. Preston Muller blessed for a bountiful year of fishing Thursday, but they had a special blessing for a special couple.

After minister Eric Partin of Shoreline Church blessed the boat and crew as part of the 60th annual Blessing of the Fleet, he called out the first mate, known as “Cowboy,” and his girlfriend Chelsy.

The two of them stepped to the front of the boat and Cowboy, aka Kellan Meeks, pulled out a ring and got down on one knee to ask Chelsy Zick, his girlfriend of five years, for her hand in marriage.

Her hand immediately went over her mouth in surprise.

Seconds later after the they hugged, Cowboy turned to the barge where the clergy were gathered for the blessing and gave a big thumbs up and a smile. Chelsy had said yes.
