It was total domination by the Destin Marlins as they sent the Meigs Wildcats packing 43-15 in girls middle school basketball.
“We kind of jumped out fast on them,” said Destin Coach Susie Pierce. “We played our diamond press and we just got steal after steal."
Destin came out and outscored Meigs 21-2 in the first quarter. Three Marlins put points on the board with Samantha Sherer leading the way with 15 points. Izabelle Adams scored four and Taylor Klosterman scored two.
Scoring the two points for Meigs was Kourtney Everett.
In the second quarter, Destin continued to hammer the Wildcats putting up 15 points to their four. Ashelyn Heydt put up six points for Destin, while Rylee Brown scored four, Sherer hit for three and Jessica Pierce scored two.
Destin led 36-6 at the half.
In the third quarter, Destin scored seven to Meigs five.
With a running clock in the fourth quarter, Meigs scored four points.
“Our second team got to play a lot of minutes tonight,” Pierce said.
“We’re looking for that sixth or seventh man to step up … so that was good experience for them,” she said.
With the win, the Marlins move to 1-1 on the season.
“It was very relieving after falling to Pryor to getting a win," Pierce said. "A good way to start the year.”
The Marlins will be back on the court after the Thanksgiving-break with a 6 p.m. game at St. Mary’s in Fort Walton Beach on Nov. 28.
