Beach Zone, Crab Island Cantina advance in Coed II

After pulling off some close wins, Beach Zone and Crab Island Cantina both posted victories on the softball field last week in the Coed Division II End of Season Softball Tournament at Morgan Sports Center. The two teams will square off at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20 in the title game.

To make it to the championship game, Beach Zone rallied in the end to pull off a 37-24 win over Emerald Coast Chiropractic.

At the end of two innings, Beach Zone was up 15-13 and only 17-16 at the end of three.

In the fourth inning, Beach Zone scored six and Chiropractic kept it close with five runs.

In the top of the fifth, Beach Zone scored three but Chiropractic failed to answer.

In the top of the sixth, with time running out, Beach Zone scored 11 runs. Chiropractic could only muster three in the bottom half.

Big hitters for Beach Zone were Brian Martinez with a homer, two doubles and two singles for five RBIs; Zach Raya with two homers, a double and two singles for four RBIs; Hollie Henderson with four singles and an RBI; and Chris Poole with a homer.

Teresa Imdieke was the big stick for Chiropractic, slapping one over the right field fence, plus hitting a triple, two doubles and a single for three RBIs. Lee Purdue hit two triples, two doubles and a single for three RBIs and Geoff Brower cracked out two homers and a double for three RBIs.

In the second game of the evening, Crab Island Cantina came away with a 27-26 win over Gold’s Gym in the final inning.

At the end of two innings, the game was deadlocked at 9-9. In the third, Gold’s put up four runs and Cantina added five.

By the end of five innings, Gold’s had taken the lead, 22-21.

In the sixth inning, each team put up three runs. Then in the seventh, Gold’s scored one and Cantina answered with three for the win.

Justin Abdo cranked out three home runs, one out of the park, for Crab Island Cantina, plus a double and a single for seven RBIs. Kristen Goergen tripled, doubled and hit four singles for five RBIs and Andy Collin tripled, hit three doubles and a single for an RBI.

Chris Jones tripled and hit four singles for an RBI for Gold’s. Matt Miller slapped a home run, triple and a double for three RBIs; Marti Littlefield doubled and singled for three RBIs; Kris Grahme belted two homers for five RBIs; and Hector Barrientos hit two homers for two RBIs.
