Destin Marlins swat Davidson Panthers

It was a clean sweep for the Destin Marlins Monday afternoon with a 7-0 victory for both the girls and the boys over the Crestview Davidson Panthers in middle school tennis action at the Bluewater Bay Tennis Center.

This was the third straight victory for the Marlins, with 7-0 wins over Pryor and Bruner of Fort Walton Beach the last couple of weeks.

“So far they are playing really strong and very well,” said Destin Coach Brett Chipser. “They are coming out and performing very well.”

Serves, net play and volley’s were all on point for the Marlins.

“But more than anything it’s their will and their want to,” Chipser said. “They want it bad enough to win and they are out here practicing and trying and doing everything they can to win.

“Hopefully, this will be our winning season,” he added.

On Monday they put Davidson away in short order.

Starting with doubles play, the Destin team of Blake Forester and Ethan Eubanks defeated Davidson’s Ethan McNeil and Robert Corthell, 6-1. Destin’s Gates Chipser and Eason Ingram won their match 6-1 over Elijah Parsons and Jase Overstreet.

In singles play, Destin’s No. 1 seed Forester defeated McNeil 6-2. Eubanks, Chipser and Ingram all won their matches 6-0. Destin’s No. 5 player, Chris Blanchard won 6-3 over Ryder Sears.

In girl’s doubles play, Madison Clark and Carly Maurer teamed up for a 6-1 victory over Davidson’s Savanah Davis and Alexis Woodward. Destin’s Kaila Ullrich and Bella Burkett beat Allison Banks and Gabriella Pfatt, 6-1.

As for singles play, Destin’s No. 1, Clark beat Davis 6-1. Ullrich beat Woodward 6-1 as well. Maurer won her match 6-0 and Burkett, 6-2. Sydney Eubanks won 6-0.
