Marlins remain undefeated on the links

After two big wins this week, both the girls and boys golf teams at Destin Middle School remain undefeated with 6-0 records.

On Monday, the Destin boys defeated Meigs Middle 133-148 in a six-hole match at Shalimar Pointe. The team then returned home Tuesday to face Liza Jackson, winning by a margin of 124-156.

Eighth graders Parker Seagle and Tanner Morlan continue to lead the Marlins team and won their individual match ups, while the depth behind the two veteran players continued to emerge.

“It’s remarkable this season is playing out the way it is with some many young and inexperienced players,” said Destin Coach Terry Gulledge. “It’s a tribute to our eighth grade captains, Parker Seagle and Tanner Morlan for their outstanding leadership.”

A couple of the young players Gulledge was referring to are Miller Lindsley and Isaiah Batarao, who are making valuable contributions in the third and fourth spots for the Marlins.

As for the girls, Destin beat Meigs on Monday 139-168.

Top scorers for the Lady Marlins were Riley Conroy with a 31, Juliana Hock 35, Aaliyah Miille 36, Camryn Lux 37, Marlee Rountree 41 and Katrina Miille 43.

Destin turned around on Tuesday and faced off against Liza Jackson at Emerald Bay Golf Club and turned in a 131-185 victory.

Hock led the Marlins with a 29. Conroy carded a 32, Rountree and Lux a 35, Miille 38, and Maddie Bartruff 42.

“We’re working hard every day to improve as a team to be ready for the county tournament,” said Destin girls coach Patricia Malpass.

The Destin girls play St. Mary’s on Monday and then the Ruckel Rams on Tuesday. Both matches will begin at 4 p.m. at Indian Bayou Golf and Country Club in Destin.

The Marlin boys have one more match, scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday against rival Ruckel Rams at Regatta Bay.

The Okaloosa County Championship will be held at Blackstone Country Club in DeFuniak Spring on April 16.
