Destin wins last home track meet
In their last home track meet of the season, the Destin Marlins claimed first place across the board against visiting Freeport Middle and Emerald Coast Middle.
The Destin girls scored a 77, while Emerald Coast scored 17 and Freeport 10.
In the boy’s competition, Destin finished on top at 81. Freeport came in second with 20 and Emerald Coast 9.
“Our kids have worked really hard this season,” said Destin Coach Demetris Stevens.
“The results have followed the efforts they put in every day. We are a very deep squad this year and that has led to the athletes pushing each other in training, which has caused progression at an impressive rate.”
Finishing at the top of the pack for Destin in a few of the events were Trinity Treadway in the discus with a throw of 71-2 and Pavel Baturyn in the boys discus with toss of 110-6. Baturyn also won the shot put with a 42-7.
Destin’s Emily Kellogg and Harrison Orr each won in their 100-meter events. Emily also won the 200 meter event, while her sister Sophie Kellogg won the mile.
Up next for Destin is a 4:30 p.m. track meet on April 17 at Shoal River in Crestview.
