Emerald Coast Stingrays topple Destin Marlins

In a battle on the tennis courts Thursday afternoon, the Destin Marlins lost to the Emerald Coast Stingrays in middle school tennis action at Bluewater Bay Tennis Center.

“Both teams played really close matches and really strong tennis,” said Destin Coach Brett Chipser of his teams.

The Destin boys lost 4-3, while the girl’s team lost 5-2.

The Destin Marlins are currently 4-3 on the season with three matches left to play before the Okaloosa County Tournament to be held at the Bluewater Bay Tennis Center.

On Thursday against Emerald Coast, Destin managed to pull off three individual victories.

Destin’s No. 1 Gates Chipser won his singles match 6-3. The other two victories came in the doubles competition with Chipser and Eisley Ingram teaming up for a 7-6 win and Charlie Frankfurt and Palmer Robbins pulling off a 6-3 victory.

As for singles, Frankfurt and Gabriel Steven both lost 6-4, while Robbins lost 6-3 and Ingram, 6-1.

In girls play, Keira Keener posted the only singles victory for the Marlins with a 6-4 mark. The other win came in doubles with Elle Stubbs and GiGi Biro winning 6-2.

In singles play, Gysel Nohrenberg, Abby Fortenberry and Biro all lost 6-1, while Stubbs lost 6-2.

Fortenberry and Nohrenberg lost their doubles match 6-4.

Up next for the Marlins is a 4 p.m. match Monday against the Meigs Wildcats at Shalimar Point.
