2 Birds Coffee upsets Kona

After going undefeated, Kona Brew Crew was knocked off by 2 Birds Coffee 14-19 in the semifinals of the Coed Division III Softball League tournament at Morgan Sports Center.

The two will take the field again Wednesday evening for the championship.

In the semifinal game, 2 Birds led 5-2 at the end of three innings.

In the top of the fourth, Kona closed the gap with two runs and then tied the game in the top of the fifth with one run.

In the bottom half, 2 Birds edged ahead with two runs for a 7-5 game.

In the top of the sixth, Kona took its only lead of the game with three runs.

2 Birds got the advantage back in the bottom half with seven runs.

Kona finished up with one run in the top of the seventh.

Jason Smith led 2 Birds with a triple, double and two singles for an RBI. Nick Chase hit four singles for two RBIs; Sam Senor hit two doubles and a single for two RBIs; and Kasie Petit connected for two singles for an RBI.

Christian Manthey was tops for Kona with three singles for three RBIs. Michelle Eubanks tripled and singled for two RBIs, and Jeremy Dameron hit two singles for an RBI.
