Both the Destin girls and boys soccer teams kicked St. Mary’s in middle school action playing on the field at Meigs Middle School on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Marlins won 4-1, while the boys posted a 6-1 victory.

As for the girls, the Marlins got off to a slow start.

“They were set up defensively to keep us from playing our style of soccer,” said Destin girls coach Demetris Stevens. “The girls got frustrated at time, but they kept working at it and kept attacking and eventually the goals came.”

Destin finally put a ball in the net with three minutes left in the first half. Jareny Enriquez passed the ball over to Bella Powell, who put hit it in the middle of the net. Destin led 1-0 at the break.

Six minutes into the second half, Destin’s Keelie Kleppinger took one right up the middle for the score. A few minutes later, Kleppinger was back again for another goal.

Enriquez scored the last goal for the Marlins.

In the boys game, Destin Coach Carlos Goncalves started some of his younger players to give them a little playing experience.

But in the end it was Archer Yates that dominated with three goals. Jax Lechner scored two and Bentley Partlowe kicked in one.

After the Thanksgiving break, the Marlins will be back on the pitch on Dec. 2 when they take on the Davidson Panthers of Crestview at home. The girls play at 5 p.m. followed by the boys game at 6:15 p.m.
