Both the Destin girls and boys teams walked off the pitch in Crestview with wins over Davidson in middle school soccer action.

In girls play, Destin won 2-1 with Ally Dowdy kicking in both goals for the Destin Marlins.

“The Davidson Panthers came out with tremendous focus and intensity,” said Destin Coach Demetris Stevens. “They were not sure about making the post season so the game became a de-facto playoff atmosphere.”

Davidson had only lost to the teams with the three best records, so a good result against Destin would put them in the best position to qualify for the post season tournament.

The Marlins prevailed and will advance to the semifinals, hosting the Bruner Spartans on Jan. 27. Davidson will take on Ruckel Middle of Niceville in the other semifinal game.

“For several of our younger girls on the team, it was a great learning experience to play in that environment against a determined opponent,” Stevens said.

As for the boys, the Destin Marlins cruised to a 4-0 shutout over the Panthers.

Scoring one goal each were Jagar Love, Corbin Grisotto, Jax Lechner and Alex Srnecek.

The Destin boys will also host the Bruner Spartans on Jan. 27 in a semifinal game. Ruckel and Pryor Middle of Fort Walton will play in the other semifinal game.
