You may have missed it between the Easter egg hunts and extra helpings of ham, but the past few days have proven to be one of the busiest college football recruiting weekends of the year.

In addition to rising high school seniors traveling all over the country for college spring games, five Florida athletes announced their college commitments.

Wharton cornerback Dijon Johnson and Wiregrass Ranch wide receiver Bryson Rodgers both committed to Ohio State, Eustis wide receiver Tyree Patterson committed to Florida, Lakewood edge rusher Isaiah Nixon committed to UCF and Carrollwood Day cornerback Eddie Pleasant III is headed to Michigan State.

State of Florida Recruiting H.Q. podcast hosts Jon Santucci and Chris Boyle give their thoughts on the five players who committed this past weekend.

Wharton CB Dijon Johnson commits to Ohio State

Johnson, a four-star recruit, checks the boxes that you want in a cornerback. He’s long at 6-foot-1.  He’s fast and changes directions well. Johnson is physical in bump-and-run coverage and hits like a safety. He anticipates well and punishes mistakes made on his side of the field. Johnson was credited with 12 tackles, three interceptions, one fumble recovery and two touchdowns in 10 games last season.

Wiregrass Ranch WR Bryson Rodgers commits to Ohio State

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Rodgers has ideal size for an outside receiver but Wiregrass Ranch had him line up in the slot quite a bit last season. He's fast, is an explosive cutter at the top of his routes and does a good job of getting separation. Rodgers picks up a lot of yards after the catch and scored on almost one-third of his catches last fall. Rodgers was the favorite target of Rocco Becht (early enrollee at Iowa State) and had a breakout season in 2021, catching 42 passes for 645 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Eustis WR Tyree Patterson commits to Florida

Another long receiver at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Patterson committed to the Gators less than two weeks after receiving his offer. He has good speed, runs his routes well and isn't afraid to go over the middle and make catches in traffic. Patterson does a lot of damage after the catch and has a knack for getting defenders off balance. A two-time all-area selection, Patterson has caught 85 passes for 1,692 yards and 20 touchdowns the past two seasons.

Lakewood EDGE Isaiah Nixon commits to UCF

The Knights are having a lot of success with edge rushers around major holidays in this class; Apopka's Kaven Call committed on Christmas. Nixon, a 6-foot-4, 215-pounder, recorded 75 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 11 games and helped the Spartans reach the final four last season. He has a relentless motor and has the lateral quickness to slow down RPO offenses. Nixon has the frame to add weight and he could end up with his hand in the dirt or stand up in college.

Carrollwood Day CB Eddie Pleasant III commits to Michigan State

Pleasant publicly announced his decision one week after his unofficial visit to East Lansing. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has the size and speed to be a boundary cornerback but also can easily slide inside against slot receivers. In addition to having good speed and instincts for the ball, Pleasant is a physical defender who does a good job of coming downhill against the run or quick pass game.
